A diagnosis defines what is considered an illness and whether and how it should be treated. It is therefore a significant element of the healthcare system. Diagnoses are often distorted for billing purposes, and patients' suffering is hastily labelled with a medical term. Being diagnosed with a mental illness can make the person concerned ill by declaring them to be ill. Most patients then follow doctors' advice and swallow antidepressants without reflection. This dilemma is the basis for the 20 works in the series »Papierfetzen« (2022-2024) by Jürgen Sobkowiak. Some works were created using scanography.
